  2. We are thrilled to share that the Governor of Virginia has officially proclaimed the week of June 16 as Pollinator Week! This recognition underscores the critical role pollinators play in our ecosystems, food systems, and gardens. We are proud to let you know that this proclamation was sought and secured by the Virginia Extension Master Gardener State Office as part of our ongoing commitment to pollinator education and outreach.

Garlic Harvest How-To @ Bracketts Farm June 5, 2025, 1117 Bracketts Farm Road, Louisa, VA 23093 – Join the Louisa Extension Master Gardeners and get your hands dirty as we harvest the garlic planted in October 2024! We’ll demonstrate proper techniques for harvesting, cleaning, and drying garlic—whether for home use or donation—and share tips for storing it for the long term.   1. Louisa – Mineral Farmer’s Market 2025 Backyard Gardening for Kids: Hands-on gardening sessions for kids held at the Mineral Farmers Market on the following Saturdays from 8:00am – 12pm.  No cost to attend.   https://www.louisacvmg.org/events-calendar
    • June 7 – Planting Flower Seeds – Join the Louisa Extension Master Gardeners at the Mineral Farmers Market for a fun, hands-on gardening session just for kids! On Saturday, June 7, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, children can learn about planting flower seeds and get their hands dirty in the garden. Free to attend—just stop by!   2. Allium leafminer – Participate in a citizen science project to monitor the spread of this new pest of alliums!
  3. NICH Infographics – A great advocacy resource if you need to explain the value of plants in different settings!
  4. National EMG Survey for IPM Knowledge, Motivation, and Training: We invite you to participate in a short, anonymous survey to help us better understand the experiences, knowledge, and motivations of Extension Master Gardener volunteers like you, being conducted by Clemson University.
  • Your input will help:
  • Assess knowledge and confidence in Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
  • Identify motivations and barriers to volunteering
  • Improve training and support for current and future volunteers
  • The survey takes approximately 15–20 minutes to complete and is entirely voluntary. No personal information will be collected, and your responses will remain confidential.
